“The Eye of the Storm”

I long to exist in that place—

where nothing—not a critical comment or glance, not anxiety, not my pride or my flesh has me in lock down.

And I’ve seen glimpses of it and I’ve been there before, where it looks like captivity, but I’m instead captivated.

I imagine the Spirit bracing and holding me steadfast in the face of danger.

The Lamb reaches out and instead of competing, I forfeit.

Instead of taking, I give.

Instead of hurting, I help.

And the Lion rises within.

So instead of wincing, I smile.

Instead of fear, there is love.

And love roars when I open my mouth.

The winds may not forgive, as they howl and rage and threaten, as everything is hurled and thrashed around me.

But I am safe, because I AM.

I find myself in the eye of a storm, but there is peace in its center because there has to be.

It’s where the Lord is.

“I have set the Lord always before me.  Because he is at my right hand, I will not be shaken” (Psalm 16:8 ).

“Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the spirit”(Galatians 5:25).

“For whoever wants to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for me will find it”(Matthew 16:25).
