“Champion”

He went round after round

taking blow after blow

sweating blood to the ground

with his angels in tow—

They waited close by

to stop the whole thing

but with you on his mind,

lit more strength in His being.

Resolutely He focused,

being torn apart,

the crowd jeered and they mocked Him,

slowly breaking His heart.

“Well, hit me, big shot!

You’re weak! You’re a joke!

Or just give up now

and go back to your home!”

Then he delivered his cruelest

shot to the face,

and spit on the floor

for disrespect’s sake.

All seemed to be hopeless

as He collapsed on his back,

when the referee counted,

the lights all went black.

“What’s going on?” people cried,

“What’s happening here?”

And when the lights came back on,

The place erupted in cheer!

“I don’t believe it!” they shouted

“He’s perfectly fine!”

“And He’s glowing in white!”

“I must be losing my mind!”

And He stared down his opponent,

who stood trembling with fear

“I-I knocked you out cold, man-“

“I swear you died here.”

I died, you’re correct.

But it was part of the plan.

You could never defeat me.

I was. And I AM.

“I did this for them,” He said,

pointing to the crowd.

And everyone fell silent,

with tears falling down.

And He raised His hands high,

signaling his big win.

“It is finished!” he roared–

the great Champion.
